Gaudí, Gothic alleys, world-class natural wine bars, and arguably the best food scene in Spain. Four nights lets us pace ourselves — a Gaudí day, a Gothic Quarter day, a wine country day trip, and room to breathe. The El Born neighbourhood is our base: medieval streets, the best wine bars, and everything walkable.
Day 1 — Wednesday, October 21
Arrive from Valencia ~7pm · Gothic Quarter evening
EUROMED train from Valencia departs 15:36, arrives Barcelona Sants 19:00. Check in to Musik Boutique Hotel (Sant Pere Mes Baix 62). Taxi from Sants to the hotel is ~12 min, €12–15. Dinner nearby — El Xampanyet, La Vinya del Senyor, and El Diset are all a 5-min walk from the hotel, ideal for a low-key first evening in El Born.
Day 2 — Thursday, October 22
Morning: Park Güell (booked 10am) · Afternoon: Gothic Quarter · Evening: Jazz Orchestra (booked 9pm)
Taxi to Park Güell — timed entry at 10:00am (valid until 10:30am). Back to El Born for lunch. Afternoon: explore the Gothic Quarter at leisure. Evening: dinner before the Barcelona Jazz Orchestra at Palau de la Música, 9:00pm (Row F1 seats 65 & 67).
Day 3 — Friday, October 23
Morning: Sagrada Família (booked 9:30am) · Afternoon: Free · Evening: La Pedrera (booked 5:30pm)
Sagrada Família timed entry at 9:30am with English guided tour at 10:00am. Back to El Born for a long relaxed lunch. Free afternoon — browse Vila Viniteca, wander El Born, or visit the Picasso Museum. Back to Passeig de Gràcia for La Pedrera at 5:30pm (until 7:30pm). Dinner at Can Culleretes.
Day 4 — Saturday, October 24
Day trip to Penedès wine country — Codorníu & Raventós
Rodalies R4 train from Barcelona Sants to Sant Sadurní d'Anoia (~54 min, every 30 min, ~€6 each way — no advance booking, just buy at the machine). Morning visit to Codorníu — the oldest winery in Spain (founded 1551), birthplace of cava, with spectacular Modernista buildings by Puig i Cadafalch. Afternoon at Raventós i Blanc — the original cava family, now making "conca del riu Anoia" wines outside the DO Cava designation. Return late afternoon. Evening: Cal Pep or a relaxed El Born dinner.
Day 5 — Sunday, October 25
Morning: Casa Batlló (booked 9am) · Afternoon: Train to Madrid (departs 3pm)
Casa Batlló at 9:00am — access window 9:00–9:15am. Allow 1.5–2 hours. Back to hotel to check out by noon. Taxi to Barcelona Sants for the AVE 03152 departing 15:00, arriving Madrid Puerta de Atocha 18:17.

Penedès Winery Day Trip — Codorníu & Raventós
Codorníu is the oldest winery and family business in Spain, founded in 1551 — the birthplace of cava. The estate is a UNESCO-worthy Modernista complex designed by Josep Puig i Cadafalch, with 30km of underground cellars. Tours descend 20 metres on a small train through the caves, finishing with a tasting of premium cavas. Raventós i Blanc (Cava Sola Raventós) left the DO Cava in 2012 to make terroir-driven "conca del riu Anoia" sparkling wines from their single estate — one of the most interesting producers in Spain right now.

Three metro lines (L1/L4 at Urquinaona) are a 5-min walk, giving easy access to Sagrada Família and beyond. Wine & Cocktail Bars
🥂 Try locally: Barcelona is Spain's natural wine capital — low-intervention, organic wines from small Catalan producers are the obsession of El Born's bar scene. Look for bottles from Penedès, Empordà, and Priorat. At a bar à cava, order cava brut nature (the driest style, no dosage added) — it's a world away from commercial Prosecco. House cava at El Xampanyet is famously good at €2 a glass.

Waterfront / Barceloneta Beach
Flat promenade running from the Columbus Monument north along the beaches for ~7km to Parc del Fòrum. Wide, scenic, passing Barceloneta beach, Port Olímpic, and Mar Bella. Easily accessible from El Born/Gothic Quarter. Best early morning before the crowds.

Montjuïc Hill Loop

Parc de la Ciutadella

⚽ El Clásico — Oct 25 at Camp Nou
FC Barcelona vs Real Madrid is scheduled for Sunday Oct 25 — our last day in Barcelona. If we decide to stay an extra night and shift the Madrid train to the morning of Oct 26, we could attend the biggest match in world football.
Tickets: Difficult but doable. Best options: (1) sign up for Barça membership (~€185pp) to access the member pre-sale window ~1 week before, or (2) buy resale on StubHub (~€300–500pp, guaranteed). Camp Nou holds 99,000 so supply is better than most El Clásico venues.
If we go for it: Take the Barcelona→Madrid AVE on Mon Oct 26 morning instead (arrive ~lunchtime). We'd lose one afternoon in Madrid but gain a once-in-a-lifetime evening. Kick-off time usually confirmed 2–3 weeks before (often 4pm or 9pm Sunday).
Decision needed by: early September (membership signup) or early October (resale purchase).
